Results: Make-Up Blog Results

So guys I wanted to try out Ger's amazing makeup tutorial. It was such an easy guide which I loved. It is also a very "m" kinda makeup look. I love eyeliner and a red lip....classic! I also wanted to try out some mac samples I received on a recent trip to my Mac makeup counter. It was the Mac pro longwear foundation and concealer. As I like a glowy look to my skin I always mix Mac strobe cream with my foundation. This foundation and concealer is really nice. I love how it gives great coverage and a lovely base to contour with. I always use my Mac "Give me sun" bronzer, it is the best. Here is my finished look.....thanks again to Ger for the wonderful tutorial. Will you guys be trying it?

Guest Blogger: Sugar Fix Makeup Step By Step Guide To Red Lip And Winged Liner

My very talented best friend and fellow blogger Ger has kindly done a guest post for all my readers. She is a trained make up artist who runs her own freelance business "Eye Candy Makeup" and she has just started her own blog sugarfixmakeup.blogspot.ie. Go check out her page, she has loads of look, tips and reviews! I love a good strong lip and flicked liner, it is my go to look. Here Ger gives you a guide on how to achieve this look yourself. Enjoy :)
Ger rocking the finished look

Step One: Foundation

Moisturize and prime the skin first. I used Bobbi Brown Hydrating face cream and Garniers Perect Blur as my primer. I then applied a light layer of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish in the shade 2.5.
I then began contouring my face. To darken the skin I used like a pan-stick formula from UNE in the darkest shade I could find. Its called a BB Cream Bronzer in the shade S05 and I got it in boots.
To lighten I used a contour cream from MAC pro store that I don't think are available anymore. Maybe use MAC studio sculpt cream in a few shades lighter than your everyday makeup.

I'm sure you have all seen photo's of how to contour. I used a MAC 130 (smaller than your normal foundation brush)  to apply the darker colour just below my cheekbones down the sides of my nose to make it appear slimmer and on the outer edge of my forehead. Last just a little under my jaw.

Dont be afraid to put a good bit on, it will all be blended in later. The lighter colour is applied under my eyes,  right down to the end of my nose and diagonally to the outer corner of my eye. Fill in this whole area with the light colour. Add another little bit just on your brow bone and a thin line down the center of your nose. Lightly blend the edges so there is no harsh lines on show. Apply dots of Benefit Sun Beam across the tops of your cheeks and lightly pat in with your fingers. Apply a little blush and dust on some translucent powder anywhere that's very shiny like your T zone. (I use LA makeup academy translucent powder)

Bobbi Brown: My Fave Foundation

Step Two: Eyes and Eybrows

I always do my brows first. I don't have a lot of filling in to do in mine. I just simply use MAC's Eye Brow Crayon in the colour Lingering. Using light strokes, I go along my natural brow and emphasize the arch. Don't go as heavy handed with the pen the closer you are to the inside. They can look quite harsh then. Keep them really defined at the edges and gradually getting slight lighter on the thicker inside. The outer part of the brow should be winged out and slightly down and NOT down and slightly out. Make sense?
Now for the eyes, I kept it really simple, cover lid with a light cream/nude colour. I used a paint pot in the colour Painterly. I just gave my crease a little definition by blending a small amount of texture into it. For the winged liner I dipped my eye liner brush in Inglot black gel eye liner (this stuff is gooood, stays on so long without smudging) and draw along my lash line, drag the brush out past your lash line and curve slightly up. This part is totally up to you of how far you want it to go out and how thick do you want your flick. I would personally avoid the Amy Winehouse look, keep it simple, always keep the flick pointed at the end. Play around with it for awhile, sometimes it can be a little tricky to get both eyes the same. Just start of small and work your way up to bigger flicks. And to finish off the eyes apply loads of mascara to the top and bottom lashes, I used Rimmel's Scandal Eyes.... but I have to say its not my favourite one I have ever purchased so I am on the lookout for a new aaaammmmaaazing one. Let me know of any recommendations. I also had a applied false lashes but thought it really took away from the look so I took them off for the photos. Less is more here. I have no eye liner on the bottom lash line just keep it simple.

Inglot Gel Liner

Step 3: The lips

Whenever in doubt, pout!! Adding some colour to your lips is a quick way to finish off an unfinished look. Woke up late for work, grab your bright lippy and mascara and head out the door. Can be put on in two minutes and you're all done. Try mix your looks up and try different colours. In these photos I lined my lips with a MAC burgundy lip pencil and filled in with MAC's Russian red lipstick.

And that's it, give it a quick spray with fix + spray, Add some loose curls to your hair and you got the look. Here are some Celebs rocking the look. Hope you liked it.

Up Close And Personal: My Make Up Bag

Makeup.......I can never have enough!! My go to brands are MAC, Estee Lauder, Make Up Forever, L'Oreal and Rimmel. Here is what is in my make up bag at the moment:

  • MAC Strobe Cream: I use this both day time and night time. I mix it with my foundation for daytime wear. For a night time look I use it as a highlighter on the cheekbone.

  • MAC Face and Body: This is so light and blends into the skin in seconds. I use C3 in this along with my strobe cream. I either use it alone or with a mixture of a heavier foundation, depending on the coverage I want.

  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Light: This foundation is medium coverage and comes in a handy tube. It also is long wearing and is perfect for a night on the town. I use no.3 and it has a fab golden tone which I love. Again I always mix some strobe cream with it. I love this foundation.

  • Real Techniques Expert Face Brush: This brush is AMAZING!! I always put my foundation on the back of my hand so i dab the brush and blend onto the face. Real Techniques brushes are not only amazing but also affordable.

  • Garnier Under Eye Concealer: Once my foundation is on I pop this under my eyes in the shape of a V. I have reallllly dark circles, they are bruise like, so this is essential everyday. It comes in a few shades but i like to use no.2 or 3 depending on my tan. I always have this in my handbag incase I need a touch up throughout the day or night. What I really love about this is that it also contains moisturiser so it is nice and light, no caking!
  • MAC Pro Sculpt Creme: This creates my "cheekbones". I use this just under the bone from my ear towards the mouth in linear strokes. I then use an excess around the temple are of my forehead to create contour. If the line looks to severe I buff it in using my fave goat hair brush. A little goes a long way! I use very little during the day and a lot more at night.

  • MAC 168 Contour Brush: This is what I use with the sculpt creme. It has a lovely slant to help give you that contour line you are looking for.

  • Make Up Forever HD Powder: Powder sets the base and I love this HD version. It gives your make up staying power and a lovely finish. You only need a tiny bit and I stipple it on lightly.

  • MAC Duo Fiber Face Brush #187: This brush is perfect to use for powder or bronzer, a lovely light touch.

  • MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Golden Sun: This bronzer is lovely and matte, and a lovely golden tone. For night time I brush this along my hair line, under the cheek bone and under the jaw bone. This gives lovely definition.
  • MAC Eyebrow Pencil: I fill in my eyebrow with this using light, hair like strokes. Holding it like a pen and using a light hand. If I am going out on a night out I will use a light brown eyeshadow to fill them in more.

  • MAC Eyeshadow: I usually don't wear any shadow during the day. At night time I like to try all different looks with all my MAC shadows. My fave is a bronze tone smokey eye. To apply it I have many brushes, mainly MAC. My fave is MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush, a great eyeshadow brush!

  • Rimmel Liquid Liner: I can not go anywhere without my liner! I wear it everyday. This Rimmel one has been my all time fave for years now. I have tried loads and always come back to this. As I wear it during the day I don't want it to severe, therefore I always wear it in brown. I love a nice liner with a small flick for the daytime and I exaggerate it for nighttime.

  • MAC Gel Liner: This comes in a pot and I use a small angled brush to apply it. I have it in black and only use it for a dramatic, nighttime look.
  • L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes: This mascara is affordable and my fave. I have tried many mascaras but this one gives you everything. Nice length, definition and separation, No clumping here!

  • Cocoa Butter Lip Balm: My lips are always dry and in need of a balm. This one is brilliant and clear in colour, it also smells amazing. I never leave the house without it.

  • Soap and Glory Lip Gloss: At night I love a good lipgloss. This one is glossy but not heavy and sticky. I use the shade pink apricot as it is lovely and natural.

  • MAC Lipstick: I wear lipstick on a night out. If I don't wear eyeshadow I love to apply "Russian Red" to my lips, it makes an outfit pop. If I wear a smokey eye I go for the neutral shade of "Creme de Nude" and some gloss. MAC have loads of shades for every occasion.

Browspiration

Brows, brows, brows!!!! The new rage is all about the statement brow. When it comes to the the brow the name that pops to most minds is Cara Delvingne's. Her brows take center stage on her beautiful face. Perfection!

Cara Delvingne
But hang on.......have you been heavy handed with your tweezers over the years, or the owner of invisible brows or just clueless as to how to achieve your dream brow!?! Fear not, I have found you the solution girls. Introducing you to The Brow Artist, Lorna Farrelly. You can find her on Twitter HERE! Lorna is a genuine artist, having studied fine art and make up artistry. She holds an amazing eye for symmetry and attention to detail. She takes her job and your brows seriously. Lorna, along with her equally talented sister Liz, is trying to give everyone their best possible brow.

The Brow Artist: Lorna Farrelly
I heard about Lorna from word of mouth and online. She has a room at the fabulous The Hive, 58 South George's St., Dublin 2. I booked an appointment hoping Lorna could rescue my uneven, over-plucked brows. I had never had my eyebrows shaped by anyone, so I was a little nervous. When I arrived Lorna made me feel right at home. We chatted briefly about my disastrous relationship with my tweezers and how she could rescue them. The approach is to sharpen up the brows using a combination of plucking and threading. Lorna does this with ease and precision, no tugging on your delicate skin around the eye. Once the brow is ready, Lorna creates a custom-blended tint used to enhance the new brow shape. The tint is also used to fill in any gaps and give the brow a fuller look. Now it may take a while to achieve your dream brow, but with Lorna working with you, it can be achieved. My main concern was the "Scouse brow", as my hair is so blonde. She explained that they would not be that severe and we discussed my hopes for my brows. As i have over plucked, I have a lot of gaps and uneven areas. We decided on a slightly darker tint for now until my brows grow out a bit more. Lorna can lighten or darken your brow. I will eventually go for more a blonder tone brow when I achieve the shape we want. I have put down the tweezers, I owned three, and embraced my regrowth.

So far I have been to see Lorna twice. I love going to see her, especially for the chats!! She is a lady and a true pro. My brows are already looking fuller and have a wonderful new profile. For a brow shape and bespoke tint it is €45. For bookings you can email thebrowartist@gmail.com. With a bit more work I hope to have my dream brow very, very soon.

Eye Candy Makeup Photo Shoot

Hey Guys,so I finally got my laptop back!! One of my friends Ger has recently set up her own makeup artist business called Eye Candy Makeup. You can find her on Fb! Like most girls I love my makeup....Mac is my guilty pleasure!! Yesterday my friend Laura and I did a photo shoot for Eye Candy Makeup. It was soooo much fun! Don't get me wrong I am no model, but we made it fun so there was no pressure. Ger did an amazing job on both our looks.
Laura had a more sophisticated, smokey look. She wore a dress from Zara, that she got for a steal in the sale, which gave her that VB designer look. Of course those long legs and beautiful hair made the look complete! I had a more pop pink look which was so cool for a change and totally out of my comfort zone. The eyes were a purple tone and I had an amazing bubble pink lipstick applied. I also had eylure lashes applied, which I never ever wear, but I think I may be a new false eye lash lover!! I wore a hounds tooth pencil skirt and a Topshop grey cropped top. In some of the images I wore a cool neon pink beanie from Topshop and some geek like specs. I thought Ger did an amazing job on both our make up applications. I will be using her for all future events, to feel that extra special!
